Hard Racing!

Thursday night is Mallory Night.
Mallory park is like no other evening race, the atmosphere and the style of racing is fantastic.
Well what can i say about this race ...... Fast!! at an average speed of about 30mph, it was difficult to really get attacking. as the race was basically one long line all the way round. with sore legs from the previous two days training, I was just happy to sit in with my feet up, and use it just as a fast training session. A well deserved win by Dan Mclay after a massive solo effort. I thought I would try my hand at a long one, but got swamped by the sprint and rolled in with the bunch. Oh well, i will try again new week :)

BUCS Road Race Champs
I was really looking forward to this race, over a tough course that went up and over Harby Hill 6 times. An early moved got away in the first few kms, but with nearly allthe big names still in the bunch, no one really worried.
Then the first time gap a little later "lead group at 2.30"
'right better get my head down and go across'
I found myself in a small chase group for a lap halfway across the now 3min gap with a big group coming across, with a some good riders in. We all came together at the mid race point, and started eating into the lead groups gap. But the size of the group meant that alot of riders werent prepared to do any work, and with the 4 ascent up Harby hill in the back of the weaker riders minds the group never really got organised.
On the hill and over the top, this group was torn to pieces by strong riding by Steve Adams and Scott Thwaites. I found myself in the 3rd group, do to poor positioning at the top of the climb. and started loosing ground.
After working with 2 riders for half a lap, I thought I would risk it and go better alone, so cleared off from them and started catching riders being spat from the front groups. I had no idea what sort of positon I was riding for. Just enjoying the feeling of speeding in the sun, passing half decent riders :)
Coming up to Harby hill for the last time, I caught Steve Adams whos bike had basically crumbled under his power!! lol
With no gears and a broken frame, I sat up and rode tempo with him too the finish, with the front group insight up the hill, but just too far to actually catch them.
I think, provisionally I was about 16th. so not too bad given how hard the race was. But I was looking to get a top ten. Still I enjoyed every minute off it.
Roll on next Sunday for the Div Champs.

Catch you later
